P…Practice
to perform (an activity) or exercise (a skill) repeatedly or regularly in order to improve or maintain one's proficiency.
I’ve already covered Envisioning, Recording and taking action on your goals. It’s with practice that we’ll advance. Believe, that no matter your age, if you practice— you will advance! Embodying a Growth Mindset is key to freeing yourself from perfection, and from a defeatist mindset.
Feeling the sheer joy of taking the first step, falling down, and getting back up, develops our balance, our inherent understanding of how to run. We don’t learn to walk and run overnight and it isn’t easy. But it is worth it.
Act
It sounds simple, but how many times have we said we would do something, and then, we don’t. The reasons for not taking action can vary. It can be simple procrastination. Maybe you don’t know how to do something. It could be you’re afraid to do something. Maybe you had a bad day or week and just don’t feel like doing it.
When it comes to procrastination, the single greatest mistake is, I’ll do that tomorrow. Tomorrow comes, and you say it again, I’ll do it tomorrow and tomorrow turns into next week, next week turns into next month and the cycle goes on and you never get started. But I bet you think about it all the time.
R…Record
When you record your vision—the steps needed to achieve it, obstacles, potential solutions and resources— you raise the likelihood of your achieving it. Recording your vision, is like drawing a map— you can refer to it time and again to stay on track— to navigate the sometimes difficult landscape of choice and change.
E…Envision
If meditate is the first step to tuning out distractions and tuning in to our own minds and bodies, envision, is next for imagining our best self, our next self, the evolution of our current self.
The question then becomes, who do you want to be?
M…Meditate
Meditation isn’t the only practice that will lead to a healthier, more joyful and productive life, but I believe it so foundational to the work we can do through coaching— we need to start here. When we want to get crystal clear on where we want to go next, meditate is the first step to tuning out distractions and tuning in to our own minds and bodies.
lingering INCENSE dispelled by science: meditation as effective as leading anti-depressant
In a surprising study at Johns Hopkins, science is dispelling the lingering scent of incense revealing that regular meditation is as effective as the leading anti-depressants on the market. With the ability to measure our bodies responses— brainwaves, respiration, heart rate, etc. we are learning, more and more about meditation’s power. And the good news is— meditation’s side-effects are all positive so, you can dose yourself anytime you need, as increasing the duration and frequency of meditation intensifies the benefits.
Meditation: STABILIZING after the death of my husband
Our daily habits define the life we live. Meditation and Mindfulness are just two habits you can develop for healthier, more joyful, and better living.
In November of 2017, Oprah Winfrey & Deepak Choprah offered a 21-day meditation. After 17 of the 21 days, I was hooked! It transformed my ability to control my emotions, focus on tasks at hand and importantly— to get things done!
After six years of meditating regularly, I have an inner calm, a positive outlook and a stable core that is nearly imperturbable.
